Love Conquers All

This was, hands down, nothing like any other Saberhagen novel. It was a social scifi like Orwell’s 1984, but where people are socially compelled to be extremely liberal, especially with sex. In this book, population growth is a problem and a couple can have no more than two children. And when the main character’s wife gets pregnant with her third child and won’t submit to an abortion, she runs to the underground midwifers for help. Her husband tries to bring her back to “normal society” but in the end changes his viewpoint and helps her.

Not really worth a read unless you really like this kind of stuff. I found it quite disturbing.

I hate this book. I have bought it three separate times, having forgotten that I hate it, because I generally like Saberhagen and the cover copy is enticing. But it sucked. I can't say why it sucked because I'd have to reread it (last time I read it was over seven years ago) and I don't want to put it back in my brain.

I got this to see if it were as bad as it's been depicted.
