This is a trade book that talks about feelings. Felix is the main character who has some struggles throughout the story. His grandfather had told him that when he feels bad, he has an invisible bucket above his head. When he feels bad, water drips out. When he feels great and confident, water drops fill the bucket. I gave this story a three out of five stars because I think it would be a good way to introduce feelings to younger students. The illustrations look like they were done with water colors. The idea of water colors were nice because when Felix was in a bad mood, there weren't any vibrant colors. It was a subtle book, and the water color helped the subtle look. I would use this in a classroom if I was teaching younger students show more about feelings. It would a be a fun art project to incorporate as well. show less
I liked reading the book How Full is Your Bucket because it pushed the reader to think about mindfulness and the character’s evolution. This story forces readers to understand that their actions have an impact on others. The author used a figurative bucket to help readers understand that. This can allow readers to be more cautious and purposefully be kind to others. They understand that it is better to have a full bucket than an empty one. The boy in the story showcased this. He started off mean and grumpy. The grandfather explained to him that he was emptying people's bucket, which really meant he was hurting their feelings. After that the little boy became mindful of when people emptied his bucket. He realized how bad that hurt, but show more he also realized how good it felt when people added to his bucket. He purposefully tried to be kind to others and treat people the way he wanted after that. He also realized when he does nice things for other he also feels good. The big picture of the story is to be kind to others. Your actions have power to either help or hurt. It is up to you to decide if you going to fill or empty somone’s bucket. show less
I LOVE this book. it is a great story describing kids about their anger or temper and how there is only so much they can put up with in the day and how everyone has a "bucket" that can either get too full in a good way or bad way. I like reading it to kids to get them thinking about different routes they can take to control anger and how to help others and fill their buckets by being kind.
Perfect for ages 4-7. I think this is a great book because it talks about how what we say or how we treat others can affect their day in a negative way. Sends a message to children saying every moment matters. At the end of the book the character felix realizes that after filling everyone elses bucket he also fills his own.
I personally love this book as it helps change the students’ behavior to be nice to their friends. I also feel different after reading this books and starts to be nice to people around me and I start to look for compliment words to stay to them to help fill their buckets.
How Full is Your Bucket? is a great children's picture book with a heavy focus on learned lessons. This book by Tom Rath focuses on a child named Felix and an important life lesson he learns about the cause and effect of interactions with others. The book starts out with felix refusing to play with his sister, which causes her to become use and break the block tower Felix is building. Felix calls on his grandpa who tells felix that he "just dipped from his sisters bucket" his grandpa explains that we all have invisible buckets and and that our actions cause these buckets to fill up or become depleted. Felix doesn't completely understand this analogy, but upon waking up the next morning finds that he has a imaginary bucket floating above show more his head. Throughout the day the actions of others, and felixes own actions cause this bucket to both be depleted and to fill up. Felix finds out that being kind to, and helping others causes his own bucket to fill up. At the end of the day Felix returns home and exuberantly tells his grandpa that he understands the buckets. Felix's sisters doll was destroyed by the dog, and felix goes to scold the dog. Just before he scolds the dog felix takes into account that animals could have buckets too, and decides to be kind instead. Felix ends the day by playing blocks with sister, having learned some very important lessons. This book's focus is a central message, the learned lesson is that our interactions with others directly affect the emotional well being of one another. Another key lesson the book teaches is that doing good for others causes our own buckets to be filled, or in other words it feels goods and fulfills us to help others. One more message the book conveys is that animals have feelings as well, and that its important to consider them. This is conveyed at the end when Felix takes his dogs bucket into consideration. Overall I think this book teaches children some very important things about life. The illustrations are cute, well done, and colorful, and the story is more of a focus on the lesson then content. Overall I would rate this book 4 stars mainly because of the importance of it's central message. This book is age appropriate for children in kindergarten to fifth grade. I would say this book is age appropriate for such a wide range of children simply for the fact of how important the lesson it teaches is. Overall I really enjoyed this book, and think the message it conveys is something that should be taught to all children. show less
How Full is Your Bucket is about a little boy named Felix and his invisible bucket. One day when Felix is fighting with his sister, his grandfather tells Felix that everyone has an invisible bucket and he was dipping out of his sisters bucket. At first Felix didn't understand what his grandfather meant. But as he goes through his day he realizes when a drop falls out of his bucket and when he gets a drop. He realizes that whenever he does something good for someone, that they both get drops in their bucket. In the end Felix realizes that everyone has feelings and everyone has their own bucket.
This book provides a very meaningful message. It teaches children to be aware of other peoples feelings. When you do something that hurts someone show more else, it takes a drop out of their bucket. And when your bucket is low you don't feel very happy. But when you do something nice for someone, then you both get drops in your buckets. It goes to show that everyone has feelings and how to be aware of them. show less
