Our Garage Sale

A well written plot about a young boy who is getting ready to sell his old junk that he may not need, but that someone else might need. It shows good personality development in that area.

This book tells the story of all the different things a family is selling at their garage sale, and the different feelings and emotions that come with getting rid of your things. I enjoyed this book as it was simple, and yet still told a story. It could also be a sort of Bibliotherapy book as it shows how letting go of a treasured item can be a positive experience.

The story “Our Garage Sale” focuses on a family, who needs to declutter their home. In the story the 2 main characters are a brother and sister who struggle to get rid of their toys. It occurs to them though, that maybe other kids would benefit from their old toys. At the end of the book, the two siblings gain all the money that their toys made and use them to buy new toys because as you get older, your tastes change. The books promote weighing evidence and making choices in personality. The illustrations for this book were colorful, but a bit plain. They were also realistic and fit with the context and text of the story. Although the writing style is for ages 3-5, the content is more mature and would work better for ages 6-7.

The author talks about how children and family members can get rid of stuff they don't use anymore, but someone else could. It shows how the children prepare for the garage sale, by putting up signs around the neighborhood. Shows children how to set tasks and complete them and also weighing evidence and making appropriate choices.

This story showcases the emotions that you go through when letting something go that you once loved.
