Cute book about a flamingo that wanted to experiment eating different things to turn different colors. There's a fairly subtle set of interpretations that could be read into the book about experimentation, fitting in, "no place like home", etc. Or just enjoy it for the wacky illustrations.

Sylvie wants to be more than just pink -- everything else on the beach is different than her flamingo family. Her mom says she's pink because of what she eats so she goes on a a bit of a binge and tries EVERYTHING! She loved all of the different looks she tried...colors, patterns. However, sometimes it's better to just be yourself and Sylvie realized she wanted to go back to being pink -- with a twist. As fun way to introduce colors and a great message about being yourself.
In this story, Sylvie, a young pink flamingo, decides to try a new diet of colorful items in an attempt to sport new colors. She eats some chocolate to try out brown, grapes to size up being purple, even a floral hat to experiment with a new, splashy style. Of course, what poor Sylvie ends up with is a big, upset tummy. She learns that just being herself is the best bet. The colorful and whimsical illustrations go perfectly with the sweet message. Parents and teachers and children alike will delight in this modern day fable that embodies an important modern day message.
I loved this book. It tells a short story about a flamingo who asks her mother why she is pink. The mother explains their pink color being from the food they eat. Sylvie gets the bright idea to eat other things to change herself into colors. She does this, but realizes that she misses how she was before. She rejoins her family, embracing her pink coat, with some added flavor for desert. I think kids would enjoy as well!
Sylvie is adorable, and I loved this take on the 'turning different colors' genre. Simple sentences make this perfect for a quick storytime, or for emergent readers to read on their own.
Sylvie is a pink flamingo who wonders why she's pink. Her mom tells her it's because they eat pink shrimp; Sylvie decides to experiment by eating different colored things - it works! She changes into the hue of whatever she puts in her mouth. She eats many different things, including a towel, a swimsuit, a hat, etc. and turns many different shades. Ultimately she decides to go back to being pink.

Mildly amusing; the backgrounds of the illustrations are really painterly and beautiful. Sylvie eats a lot of stuff that isn't good for her - she gets a stomach ache, but otherwise it isn't really addressed. Also, I'm not sure pink flamingos are really pink because they eat shrimp...
