I LOVE THIS BOOK! I smiled and laughed all the way through it. I love that the ending is a wonderful twist that makes the story's meaning change completely. It's really a story about love that's unconventional and how some assume that love might not exist between two creatures that are deemed so different. The illustrations speak volumes, which is obvious since it is a wordless book, but they convey emotions and make the reader excited, and make the reader laugh and wonder what's to happen next. It's a wonderful story that I would be happy to use in a classroom.
This wordless books follows a fox that has stolen a chicken that is being pursued by a group of animals. This book is both funny and great, but also ends a way that may keep some parents away. The pictures really stand out as all books by this author as top quality.
This is the first book in Enchanted Lion's new series, Stories Without Words. In a series of wordless panels, Rodriguez tells the story of a happy family; bear, rabbit, rooster, chickens and chicks and the shocking kidnapping of one of the chickens. The bear, rabbit and rooster pursue their kidnapped friend and the dastardly fox through the forest, over mountains and across the sea until they finally rescue her...or do they?
Once you've read the surprising ending, you'll have to go back and look at the story with new eyes, following the hidden clues and subtle plot changes to figure out what's really going on. The illustrations are light and amusing, with rounded comic lines and warm colors, perfectly suited to the simple surface story show more and the sneakier underlying plot. The nice rectangular shape of the book is particularly intriguing and perfect for a child's hands.
Verdict: Wordless books can be a hard sell in the library, but the unique shape and friendly pictures of this one should make it a popular choice. Also a great book to introduce children to the idea of following action and plot through comic panels. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series, a new offering from Arthur Geisert titled Ice. show less

This is a funny, funny, worldless book about a fox that steals a chicken and her animal friends' search to find her. I won't give away the unexpected ending, but it will crack you up! Great for sharing with small groups of children (no more than 5), and for encouraging beginning readers/writers to come up with their own words.
There are no words in this book at all. I didn't know that when I ordered this used book for just a few bucks online at Thriftbooks.com. You have to tell the story going by the pictures.
Although I don't care for this at all, the pictures are cute and you can definitely tell the story by following the pictures. A fox steals a chicken, but he doesn't want to kill it. He wants it as a friend. The other animals chase it down for days trying to get their chicken back. But, in the end they find that the chicken actually loves the fox too and wants to stay. It is a pretty cute story. It was first published in France in 2005, and published in America in 2010.
Maybe one of my 10 grandies will love telling a story. I can't rate this kind of book show more with no words. I'm not a child who can't read. show less

Books without words are a good way to stimulate the imagination into figuring out what the author wants you to know. I would love to use this as a project with a younger class and have them write the words. Its also a great way to show little ones that there is more than one way to look at things, even if it seems to OBVIOUSLY be one particular way. I love the simple but silly romantic story line.
