This book uses real pictures drawn from orphans during WWII. This makes the story even more intimate and heart wretched. The text is actually the words written by the girls. It is the girls' recollection of the war and the journey they had to take.

This was a very different story told from the pictures and words of little girls. I enjoyed this book. I have never read anything like it before. The little girls were very brave.
This is a book of drawings made by orphaned girls of Normandy. Each drawing includes a short story about the picture. The book tells the story of one hundred orphaned girls who had to escape from the invasion of Normandy. It talks about how they survived and traveled through their escape to safety.
Upper primary book -- the story of 100 French girls who had to leave an orphanage during the Allied invasion of France in 1944 in order to get to safety. They walked 150 miles with only a blanket, a white flag, and some bread.
The story of French (girl) orphans during the Nazi occupation of France is told through their drawings. Memorable book.”

While this book may appeal to those searching for a child's view of D-Day, its fragmentary references and lack of explanatory matter may frustrate readers.
