Ernest and the Big Itch (Ernest series)

Of course bluebirds don't live quite like this, but still, a cute story with a good message about cooperative problem-solving. And I can certainly imagine the real-life Ernest being scolded by a bird for rubbing his itch on the birdhouse's pole, and then finding a better back-scratcher.
