I was so surprised by this book. I checked it out, imagining that it was a novel for adults. It turns out that it is really a book of history for children, essentially the Anabasis retold at a child's level, but still quite grim. This book's series is unusual, some quite well known, at least in their time, authors contributed to it. I'm glad I read the book; I knew less than I thought I did about the whole story. Because my edition is so old, the illustrations by Leonard Everett Fisher are two color.
