Description
Chartres, 1145. Ten years earlier a fire destroyed the town and the culprit has still not been traced. The Chevalier Galeran de Lesnevan, summoned by the Count of Blois to investigate a new mystery, uses the opportunity to visit his friend Audouard, a master glazier, in Chartres on the way. When a murdered body is discovered in the river, a series of events leads Galeran to believe that the perpetrator of the fire ten years before is still at large in the area. En 1134, un incendie a ravagé la bonne ville de Chartres. Les causes du désastre - ou leurs auteurs - n'ont jamais été découvertes. Mais, dix ans plus tard, Galeran de Lesneven, jeune chevalier breton et fin lettré, soupçonne le criminel de hanter toujours les lieux du sinistre. Alors que des centaines d'ouvriers édifient la grande cathédrale à la gloire de Dieu, Galeran fait connaissance avec l'enfer dans les bas-fonds de la ville, où écorcheurs, prostituées et assassins se livrent une bataille sans merci.
