Those hilarious southern sisters, who prove that sibling rivalry never ends, are heading for a vacation at the beach. With no witnesses to the crime except a few great blue herons, the sisters have no choice but to bypass the clueless police and follow their own instinct to find the killer. Patricia Anne and Mary Alice, two very mis-matched sisters in their 60s,
head for the beach with Patricia's daughter, Haley, and Frances, and old
friend, got a "girl's vacation" filled with sunbathing, chick movies, and
shopping trips. They stay in Mary Alice's condo on the beach in the Florida
panhandle town of Destin, and are hoping for a break from hectic routine,
but they should know better than that, right? Sure enough, when the
resident manager of the building is found murdered and washed up on the
beach nearby, the ladies begin their amateur sleuthing to track down a
murderer, all while enjoying sun, fun, a writing convention, and a rather
traumatic hair-coloring session for Patricia Anne.

These books are such fun, and the show more characters so three dimensional that I
feel like I've sat across the table from these gals at bingo over the years.
Great stuff, and I'll be sorry to see this series end, but these ladies will
live on in my imagination, I expect.

Mary Alice and Patricia Ann are sisters living in the Birmingham, Alabama area. They need a break and head with Patricia Ann's daughter Haley and friend Frances to Mary Alice's condo in Destin, Florida. Mary Alice is actually attending a writer's conference. It isn't long until they stumble across the body of a friend on the beach. The discover a second body a bit later. This is a thoroughly Southern mystery. It's as much about the Southern friendships and conversation as it is about the mystery. They don't really put themselves in a lot of dangerous situations and leave most of the investigation to the proper authorities. What nosing about they do is just natural Southern gossip that turns up clues. It was a fun mystery for a change of show more pace and perfect for a beach read. show less

I listened to the audiobook version, and the total package was a good listen! The narrator did a good job handling various character voices, both male and female. Since it's nearly summer, the vacation theme was appropriate too. I also liked how the Sister, Patricia Ann, Haley, and Frances figured out the clues without pestering the local law enforcement, which often happens in these cozy mysteries.
Sister is on her way to a writing conference and Mouse needs an adventure so they set off for Sister's condo on the beach in Florida. No sooner had they arrived than the resident manager, and partner in a new housing development turns up on the beach, need I say it, dead.

I just love these two ladies, their family and friends. I find that the mystery is often lacking in these stories but I enjoy the ride so much I really don't care.
I read this entire series years ago, but have, of course, forgotten all of the plots. These books have some humor and nice mysteries. This one involves two dead women and a development of condos.
Cute. Really quick read. Good travel book (I would assume others in the series are of the same vein). Not my normal type of book... but a fun little break.
Mary Ann and Patricia Alice can't even get away from murder while on vacation. Even a southern beach becomes the setting for their sleuthing skills.
