Description

The bestselling author Jeffrey Archer once again astonishes, delights, and electrifies with this audio collection, Twelve Red Herrings.
Featuring bonus interviews with the author.
Archer, the internationally bestselling author of Honor Among Thieves and Kane & Abel, serves up this inventive collection of a dozen short stories — with a twist. Cleverly styled, with richly drawn characters and ingeniously plotted story lines, each of the twelve pieces ends with a delightfully unexpected turn show more of events.
An imprisoned man is certain that his supposed murder victim is very much alive....A female driver is pursued relentlessly by a menacing figure in another vehicle....A young artist gets the biggest break of her career....A restless beauty manages the perfect birthday celebration....An escaped Iraqi on Saddam Hussein's death list pays an involuntary visit to his homeland. In each tale, human beings are given an opportunity to seize, a crucial problem to solve, or a danger to avoid. How will they react? How would you? Capping off the collection are two additional rewards. In the final story, Archer offers a choice of four endings. And buried in each story is another diversion — a red herring which Archer challenges his readers to uncover.

Sometimes all I need are short stories. Archer created 12 stories that throw a twist (or red herring) into the mix. One Man's Meat... even includes 4 alternate endings. I somehow always choose the sad sack ending.

Do Not Pass Go was quite a good story about an Iraqi man just trying to fly home from Turkey. Cheap at Half the Price was a little....ballsy for a woman but also made me cheer for her. Never Stop on the Motorway has been told before, many many times.

There were only a couple of stories that caused me to go Meh, but the rest made up for those.
Once again a batch of short stories, involving some mysteries, but most are on the edge of crime fiction.
This audio production makes good listening particularly as the narration by Alec McCowen is so well done. Each of the stories has an unexpected twist in the final moments.

I'm not usually nuts about short stories. But this is a good collection.
The 12 short stories in this collection are included in the large "Collected Short Stories" edition. I thought the stories were mixed in quality. Here is the full list from the larger collection, along with by ratings (0 to 5 stars).
