The book True or False: Storms by Melvin and Gilda Berger uncovers the mystery behind storms. It asks twenty-two true or false questions all pertaining to storms and then answers each of them. It is a very informative book with lots of fun facts for kids to discover. This would be a great book for middle school age children when learning about the weather. The book talks about when storms happen, colors of storm clouds, what a ring around the moon means, monsoons, ice storms, sleet, lightning and thunder, snow, hailstorms, hurricanes, tornados, and storm chasers. The book can easily answer most of your students’ questions and possibly lead to even more questions. This is a great book to get your students really thinking and using their many science skills. You could work the book in with a lesson on observation and have the students observe lightning and thunder or even track a hurricane. This book can also teach students about the different types of weather we have around the world. This is a non-fiction accurate book. This is just one book in a series of science type true or false books. no reviews | add a review

This informational book is about storms. It asks the reader a true or false question, and the reader then turns the page to get the answer and an explanation. Each photograph has an insert that also gives little facts. It discusses the many different types of storms that appear in our different seasons, from hurricanes and monsoons, to tornados, to blizzards and ice storms.
Personal Reaction:
I enjoyed reading this book. The author made it easy for children to understand how storms develop and the damage that they can cause. The photographs were excellent. Some were of the weather itself, and some were of the aftermath. This book would be great to have in the classroom, especially for those who love science.
Classroom Extension Ideas:
1. Students can create a picture of one of the types of storms discussed in the book. They can use materials such as cotton for clouds to be as creative as possible.
2. Students can participate in a scavenger hunt answering questions about the different types of storms which will then lead them to the next clue. ( )
