Serenity is a well-bred young lady who dreams of adventure and writes stories for her father's newspaper. One of her stories was about the Sea Wolf, a man who goes about rescuing impressed American sailors from British ships. The actual Sea Wolf reads the story, and comes to see how she knows so much about him. This leads to her kidnapping, and we all know where things will go from there.
I have a few problems with this book. First, the author has an unfortunate fondness for sentence fragments. Commas exist for a reason, people! I love a good appositive phrase as much as the next girl, but please let's make it part of a proper sentence. Second, Serenity is a 'bluestocking'--she's all "women should be equal to men! We have minds and show more deserve a place in the world!" And our romantic hero's reply is basically "Your place is in my bed, woman!" Their fundamentally different world views were never reconciled, and I was unconvinced by the love story. show less
