When his life came to a sudden and tragic end on October 25, 1999, Payne Stewart was at the top of his game on every level. In June of 1999, he enjoyed the signature triumph of his career and solidified himself as one of the exemplary personalities in his profession with a victory at the U.S. Open and a place on the coveted winning U.S. Ryder Cup team. Not earth shattering, but still an interesting look at the life of a PGA tour golfer. ( )

This is not a brilliantly written and edited biography. It is an honestly written and edited biography. I got a good feel for who Payne Stewart was and I feel infinitely sad that Tracey and her kids did not get a chance for another eighteen years of sharing his joy of life.
Reading the book was not a waste of time but the photograph of Payne and his caddy, Mike Hicks reacting to the final putt of the 1999 U.S. Open told the whole story of Payne Stewart in one picture. The hat was right, the joy was right, the strength of the arm muscle was right, the wedding ring was right, the fleetingness of the moment was right. ( )

First words
This could be it. I leaned forward in my chair, eye's glued to my husband's image on the television screen, anxiously watching and waiting, hanging on the commentator's every word.
