The story of TTV, one of the three major cartoon-for-TV operations that led the way with Saturday morning cartoons, the others being Jay Ward with Bullwinkle and Hanna-Barbera with Huckleberry Hound and Quick Draw McGraw. TTV was founded as a part-time operation by advertising executives who didn't want to go over the heads of kids which they felt was a weakness of Rocky and Bullwinkle, while still avoiding irritating adults, alternatively not aiming too young because the older kids would control the dial not the youngest. Calculatedly, they used common words for proper names like Underdog and Tennessee the young kids would associate with the cartoons whenever they encountered them. Filled with detail including bios of each of the players from executive down to voice actors, details on development of shows and characters, and anecdotes. The book combines a basic narrative of the firm and its operations with a scrapbook format of reproduced cartoon scripts, artwork, photos of people and merchandise. Contributes to a valuable understanding of how the cartoons made-for-TV got started. For those who grew up with Underdog, Tennessee Tuxedo, and King Leonadro, this is marvelous reading. ( )
