1442 Flaubert, by Benjamin F. Bart (read 4 Apr 1977) Reading this biography (Flaubert was born at Rouen 12 Dec 1821 and died at Croisset May 8, 1880) took awhile because I read things by him during the time I was reading this. I finally decided the book was good, though some of the critical analysis bored me greatly, especially on Bouvard et Pecuchet, which I had not read and decided I would not read. I never felt too sorry for Flaubert, even though his last years were harrowing on account of debt: he died of tertiary syphilis and I don't feel sorry who people contract VD themselves. But it was a very worth reading book.
