Description
As one of the most significant representatives of the literary realism of the second half of the nineteenth century, C.F. Meyer wrote the novella The Judge at the threshold to the epoch of literary modernism. This volumes provides commentary on The Judge, a frontier justice drama, which is complicated from the standpoint of legal history and reveals C.F. Meyer's proximity to symbolism. Conrad Ferdinand Meyer (geboren 1825 in Zu?rich, gestorben 1898 in Kilchberg bei Zu?rich) repra?sentiert show more neben Gottfried Keller einen der bedeutendsten Vertreter des »Literarischen Realismus« aus der zweiten Ha?lfte des 19. Jahrhunderts. Sein literarisches Interesse gilt vorzugsweise der historischen Novelle wie "Die Richterin" (1885), die ein rechtshistorisch kompliziertes Selbstjustizdrama aus der Karolingischen Zeit mit einer fast missglu?ckten Liebesleidenschaft mit literarisch facettenreicher Erza?hlkunst verbindet - "Ich ziehe sie dem Zeitroman vor, weil sie mich besser maskiert. [...] Auf diese Art und Weise bin ich mittels einer sehr objektiven und außerordentlichen ku?nstlerischen Form vollkommen subjektiv und individuell."
