This book was full of additional information that added to the story and made it that much more interesting and informative. An example is in the back the author provides more books that the reader could read about pumpkins and websites the reader can visit to learn more about pumpkins as well. I thought this was an interesting thing the author did and something I really liked because it offered the reader additional information helping to convey the overall purpose which was to inform the reader about pumpkins. Other additional information that was added in the book was headings. For each part of the book the author had a heading so if the reader were looking for something specific it would be easy to find. For example when talking about how fall was here, the author indicated this was what be told in this part of the book by placing the heading of “fall is here”. This I feel also helped the reader to understand and interpret the text better. Other additional information that I found was a glossary at the back. This I feel again helped the reader to understand the text better especially with some of those big words now defined and could possibly even help someone who doesn’t celebrate Halloween or doesn’t know what fall is understand the text better because words such as jack-o-lantern are now defined for them, making the book more multicultural sensitive.
The final thing I enjoyed about this book was the beautiful illustrations. The picture was entirely illustrated by photographs. They were beautiful, colorful photographs and helped to really show the reader what fall was. An example is when showing a picture of a pumpkin, the orange is so vivid and bright that the pumpkin pops of the page and looks as if you could touch it. I loved this! I felt it made the book that much more informative and made it that much more special. ( )
