Description

Fiction. Mystery. Thriller. HTML:Private investigation isn’t on the list of a southern belle's most desirable accomplishments—but it’s saved Sarah Booth Delaney's Delta homestead. Now all she has to cope with is its bossy antebellum ghost who is determined to save Sarah—from spinsterhood. Then comes the perfect social occasion: Lawrence Ambrose's dinner party. . . .

Ambrose, once a famous man of southern letters, is planning a comeback: a delicious tell-all with a bitchy ex-model show more as his “biographer.” As he taunts his dinner guests with the news that his book will blow the lid off Zinnia’s darkest secrets, it becomes plain that each and every guest has a secret—and wants Ambrose to keep it. When the morning-after mess includes a bloody corpse and the manuscript of the biography disappears, Sarah Booth goes digging for answers. But many who hold them are six feet under—or soon will be—and if she doesn’t tread carefully, she could join them any day now. . . . show less

Lawrence Ambrose has returned to Zinnia, Mississippi, from his home in
Paris, and is having a Christmas Eve dinner party with a guest list that
reads like a Who's Who from the highest society circles in the country.
He's an old friend of Sarah Booth Delaney's parents, though Sarah Booth
can't remember him at all. But, in honor of his old friends, she's invited
to the party, too. Lawrence is a world famous author and artist who is
about to rock the literary and celebrity world with a tell-all
autobiography, written with a bitchy ex-model, that promises to tear the lid
off long-kept secrets held by his guests. One of the guests is determined
that Ambrose keep their secret, apparently, because the after-party mess
includes a bloody corpse show more and a missing manuscript. Sarah Booth goes digging
for answers, but many of the people who hold them are six feet under, and if
she's not careful, she could be joining them before the New Year is rung
in....

This is the second in the "Bones" series and it's well-written. The ghost
of Jitty, Sarah Booth's great-great-grandmother's nanny, again plays a part
in the mystery, but much less prominently than in the first book. These
stories are character driven, and they keep getting better. This one gets a

I love this series, even tho I find the ghost an annoying presence in this books. Excellent stand alone novel, set in the Literary & art world.
Sarah Booth Delaney is at it again in her 2d mystery adventure. The plotting is a bit weak, but I enjoy the Southern charm. Good vacation reading.
Another interesting adventure with Sarah Booth in the Mississippi Delta... I enjoy the author's use of vocabulary and her development of characters.
Well written, fast paced murder mystery. Jitty, the ghost, just had a few "cameo" appearances in this book. Sarah Booth gets her dog, Sweety Pie, as a Christmas present. Hints of romance, but that was enough. The bad guys are caught. Sarah Booth's mystery man, Hamilton Garrett V, appears in the last few pages to twirl her around the dance floor and give her a New Year's kiss. Perfect ending.
I'm enjoying this series, lots of laughs and fun to read.
