Hamilton Jones (a fictitious character), a 13 year old slave escapes slavery and is intent on revenging his mistreatment and the capture of his mother. He locates John Newton, the captain of the ship that forcibly brought his mother to America. At gun point, he forces Newton to tell his life's story, wanting to understand why he traded in slaves. John Newton's story is amazing, and it is clear that God saved his life on numerous occasions as he had a great plan for his life. This is one of those 'hard to put down' books for kids aged approximately 8 to 12. ( )
