This is my last read for Carl's R.I.P. Challenge, and I have to say I picked a good one. I've enjoyed the entire series from the very first page of the first book and feel that it has definitely picked up speed through the next three books. With one book left in the series, Eleventh Grade Burns lives up to its predecessors and remains a breathless read.
There has been a not-so-gradual descent into darkness that is only natural as Vlad matures and as the Pravus prophecy becomes closer to coming true. This is an especially description for this fourth book. The comic relief provided by Henry is paltry at best this time, only because of the seriousness of Vlad's situation. Much of the novel is spent with Vlad coming to grips with balancing show more his vampire and human natures, which is necessary to set up the final installment.
Having spent so much time over the past few weeks raving about the Vlad Tod series, there isn't much more I can say. Eleventh Grade Burns leaves the reader with one amazing cliffhanger and definitely sets up the last book quite nicely. The lack of hormone-fueled drama is a refreshing change from other young adult novels. The result is a novel that continues to answer questions about Vlad's potential future, setting up the final showdown quite nicely. I can hardly wait to see how it all ends! show less

Vlad's still upset that he broke up with Meredith, still feeling guilty about feeding on Snow, and of course worried about the ever-present threats to his life. Vlad also spends a lot of time feeling confused in this one, which is kind of a contrast to the next book where everything becomes clear to him. Yeah, paging through this I definitely remembered why I binged this series.
Vlad has dumped Meredith as he is afraid his vampire urges will get the better of him and he will feed from her. Instead, he feeds weekly from the pretty goth girl Snow who has developed a deep crush on him. Vlad is ashamed of his actions and can't tell anyone about them; let alone his uncle Otis who Vlad made promise not to feed on humans when he was staying in Bathory. Otis is now a permanent resident and has renovated Vlad's old house except for the room where his parents died. Meanwhile, Joss is back ro finish what he started and Vlad and the Slayer are no longer friends; in fact, Joss is now dating Meredith. Vlad's world is complex enough as it is without his uncle falling in love with his guardian Nelly, an ancient, lonely vampire show more called Dorian wanting to feed from him and the council pronouncing his uncle a dead man walking. Oh and then there is , of course, D'Ablo after him for cutting off his hand in the last book! show less
Not going to lie, a good deal of this one was pretty predictable: the pretrial, D'Ablo's goals, even the "shocker" at the end, I could see coming. I still enjoy it, but Ms. Brewer should join a literary club so that other authors can help her fix some of her issues
This book is very good! I would reccomend it to anyone who likes vampire books. When i was reading this book it sucked me in and I couldn't stop reading. If you love vampire books that aren't all lovey dovey like Twilight you most certainly will ike it.
Dan's review: What can get harder for a vampire than being a teenager and having to hide what you are? Just ask Vladmir Tod. He's a teenage vampire with a load of problems. He's given up the girl he's been infatuated with for years, to keep her safe from his thirst, but now she's dating the friend who wants to kill him. His uncle is going on trial for murder, and breaking other vampire laws, and isnt expected to survive. One of his drudges, the one he feeds from, is falling for him, and he's confused about her. His fathers journal is stolen, and there is a new, yet very old vampire who says he must have Vlad's mixed blood to taste. A lot for a teenage boy to handle, much less one who is a vampire. Ms. Brewer does a wonderful job of show more ramping up the excitement, stress, and suspense here, without overdoing it, or making this into a horror series. Lots of twists and surprises keep the pages turning, and the end of this one is a cliffhanger!
Beth's review: This is the 4th book and always in the like of Vlad it is human and vampire life and all the normal and not so normal of vampires wanting his blood and wanting to kill him and ofcourse and then someone from his past he thinks he see his dead father show less

I liked this book because for the twists the author puts into the story that makes it exiting to read. I think the author did a great job with to detales and pretty much everything. There were some parts that got confusing but i was able to find it out by reading more. Over all, it was a very good book, and hope people will take there time and read it also. I would be worth the time. show less
