Lazaro Herrera is the illegitimate son of Tino Galvan. Since his father wanted nothing to do with him, Lazaro, living with his mother, grew up poor and he had to struggle for everything he got, while his half-brother Dante Galvan grew up with all the privileges that the Galvan name entitled him to. After years of planning, Lazaro is ready to take his revenge on the Galvans and his target is Dante. Zoe Collingsworth gets caught in the middle of Lazaro's plans for revenge when she arrives in Argentina to visit her pregnant sister, Daisy, who is married to Dante. Lazaro kidnaps Zoe, she learns of his plans against her brother-in-law, and tries to talk him out of it. The two are both fighting an attraction to one another, knowing that show more nothing can ever come of it.
This is the second book in The Galvan Brides series by Jane Porter. It can be read on its own, but since Dante and Daisy from the previous book, In Dante's Debt, feature in this one, it added to the story for me from having also read their story.
This was a very enjoyable revenge story with a hero so set on having his revenge that nothing was going to stop him. There were some very emotionally charged moments in the book--between the half-brothers, between the sisters, and between Lazaro and Zoe. I was completely drawn into the story. I thought the ending was great. It was nice to see the happily ever after, which was hard to imagine there could be at times, after the mess Lazaro made with his plot for revenge. show less
