The Colors (Mouse Books)

Cute wordless book with a portion of the front cover seemingly nibbled out by the mouse that appears in the nibbled space.
A mouse nibbles his way through a piece of paper into a room as an artist leaves. The mouse opens a box of oil paint tubes, squeezes out the colors and mixes them as he paints lines on a piece of paper. Finally, after making a bit of a mess, he leaves from the hole he made at the beginning with his tail full of paint.

A fun wordless picture book which allows children to use their creativity to invent a story of their own. It is especially useful for emergent readers of all ages. The illustrations depict a curious little mouse who discovers a set of paints and continues to test out each color on a blank sheet of paper. I thought the illustrations in this book were well done but they didn't really stick with me it is for that reason I choose to rate this book a 4 star. I would recommend it though as I think every child should be exposed to the free rein fun of a wordless picture book.

This would be a book to use for kindergarten because young children enjoy the colorful images that the illustrations provide. I would use this in kindergarten to show the primary and secondary colors for an art integration. You can use this book to develop the standard of retelling directly related to kindergarten. This can also be used to meet the standard of sequencing for first grade.
