A powerful bestseller from the country's number one storyteller. Read by Carole Boyd. In a 1930s setting, LIVE THE DREAM tells the story of three people caught up in a tangle of love and hatred which threatens to tear them apart forever. Handsome, wealthy and fair-minded, Luke Hammond could have the world at his feet. Instead, he has the world on his shoulders. Consumed by sadness, Luke's only respite from his respectable life is on a Tuesday, when he heads off to seek solace in a hideaway deep in the calm heart of the woods. Locked in his thoughts and dreams, living his humble 'Tuesday' life, Luke's quiet sadness intrigues Amy Maitland, a bright young woman whom Luke seems at first not to notice. Amy finds herself wondering more and more about this elusive man. But Amy worries too about Daisy, her beloved best friend, who masks the misery of a difficult home life. Amy knows that under the bravado and humour there is a desperate woman, searching for stability and love - seemingly at any cost. Calling Luke her 'Tuesday Man', Daisy falls head over heels in love with him. Although he's aloof and appears to have little time for romance, she means to have him. As Amy grows increasingly uneasy about Daisy, she fails to realise that Luke is quietly falling in love with her. And unwittingly she finds herself drawn into a dangerous position, not of her making...… (more)

Live the Dream is about two people learning to trust again when it comes to matters of the heart.

I read this book after losing my reading mojo. I wanted something easy to read and something light and that is what I got. I found he characters quite unbelievable; especially Amy who was perfect to the point of annoyance.

The book plodded along at a fair pace until the last couple of chapters when it speeded towards a conclusion.

I don't think I will read anymore by this author but the book did serve me for what I wanted it for. ( )

I picked this book based on the description from the back cover. The description is deceving, first because there's no clue the book is set in the mid 1930's, secondly, because the relationship between Amy and Luke isn't as described, and third, I didn't get the feeling the future held any kind of danger as the back cover implied. The author did a fairly good job of weaving all the different characters together and creating the illusion of a small town and how those relationships might intermingle. However, while the twining together of the characters was well thought out, they were a bit dull and not very interesting. An okay book, but I expected a better read based on the synopsis from the back of the book. ( )

Book description
Handsome, wealthy and charismatic, Luke Hammond should have the world at his feet. Instead, he is immersed in a double tragedy which has rocked the quiet town of Blackburn. Luke's only respite from his respectable everyday life as owner of Hammonds factory is the precious time he carves out each week when he seeks solace deep in the heart of the Ribble Valley. There, his turbulent emotions find their way into his mesmerising and powerful paintings. Luke's lonely nature intrigues Amy Maitland, a homely, down-to-earth young woman nursing her own heartache. Unaware of Luke's true identity, and the pain of his past, Amy is drawn to the quiet man who visits her best friend's cafe every Tuesday. Gradually, a friendship develops between the pair and intimacy blossoms. But Amy is torn between her heart and her head. She gave up her heart once before. Can she bear to risk it again? When she discovers who Luke really is, her feelings are in even greater turmoil. However intense her attraction for Luke is, Amy's sense of honour and duty is paramount. Then disaster strikes the factory. As Luke's past returns to haunt him, and Amy is made to fear for the life of her best friend Daisy, suddenly the future looks very dangerous indeed....
