Finally a worthy successor to [b:Hey, Al|526077|Hey, Al|Arthur Yorinks|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1317066849s/526077.jpg|513903] which is absolutely magical, perfect, and unparalleled. Broach, who has written an MG I liked, gave Egielski the right story for his talents. Lots of detail told in the pictures that is not told in the text, and that is a joy to spend time looking at. Plot and theme of story both entertaining. I do recommend this picture book for ages 4-8, and for young-at-heart adults.
I had high hopes for this book based on the title and cover but it did not live up to my expectations. It is the story of a boy who goes on an adventure with his uncle, who seems to reminiscent of Mr. Magoo. The illustrations are crucial to the story, as they show everything that the uncle misses. I reread the story several times because I didn't catch everything the first time. This would be difficult to read aloud because the illustrations DO tell so much of the story. I may need to read it again in week and perhaps I will like it better after some time has passed. I would not recommend it but I do think some people will indeed enjoy it.

This book was an okay read. It was very repetition, therefore not very engaging. The plot was very predictable and you knew what would happen, and what would be said on each page. The line, “Peter tried to follow,” was said five times and it was not very fun. I will say the illustrations were great. This book was a Caldecott Medalist and the pictures were very detailed and colorful. My favorite was with all the animals Uncle Nigel and peter encountered in the rainforest. They were all laughing at Uncle Nigel with the things they had stolen from him during their explorations. The snake and his knife, the alligator had his life jacket, and the gorilla had his hat. The big message in this story is al always explore. These two explored show more and encountered many different animals and Peter was able to learn about the rainforest. show less
Retelling: Peter's favorite uncle took him on an adventure through the forest to find a special Gorilla. Peter found lots of animals but his uncle Nigel didn't seem to notice.

Thoughts and Feelings: Delightful! This is a perfect example of how irony can be used to make people laugh. I want an adventure too!
Cute story about a boy who goes on an adventure with his uncle! Good example of how having gumption will increase your chances for having a great time!
I would use this book during a read aloud to teach vocabulary awareness. I think students will like this book because it's very entertaining.
