Description

Harry Windover adores blonde, green-eyed Athena Lancaster, but alas, a penniless man like himself has no hope of winning a young noblewoman's hand. To add insult to injury, Athena's brother-in-law and guardian, the Duke of Kielder, has asked Harry to assist Athena in finding the gentleman of her dreams. But the lovesick Harry is cunning as well: as the weeks pass, he introduces Athena to suitors who are horrifically boring, alarmingly attached to their mothers, downright rude, astoundingly show more self-absorbed, and utterly ridiculous. Athena can't comprehend why she is having so little success meeting eligible and acceptable gentlemen. Indeed, her circle of admirers couldn't be less admirable — nothing like the loyal, gentle friend she's found in Harry. But how long can Harry's scheme be hidden before it is discovered? And what will Athena do when she uncovers Harry's deception? Escape into a charming regency world in this delightfully romantic comedy of manners that will entertain you to the very last word.

Yaaaaawn this was boring…

I should’ve loved it, the premise sounded good and cinnamon roll heroes are my favorite, but
I really enjoyed this! While many regency era books can be dry and boring, this was witty and laugh-out-loud funny at times. I can’t wait to read more by this author (including the 1st book in the series, which I skipped without realizing it..)
This is a very nicely written comedy of manners, with no actual sex but lots of longing and innuendo. I guess one would say it is clean, for those who care about such things. Harry is very funny, and I felt a bit sorry for him. The string of unsuitable suitors that he keeps presenting to Athena is quite farcical. The duke and duchess were very interesting, and I would love to read their story. But although this book (Kindle version) was briefly priced at only $3.99, Eden's publisher has the price for her other books at more than $10.00. I don't have to pay that much for Countney Milan or Jennifer Ashley or Lisa Kleypas, so unless I happen upon a Kindle deal I won't be reading any more Sarah Eden.
Harry has been best friends with the Duke of Kielder for years. The duke has recently gotten married and is now acting as guardian for his wife’s younger siblings. Athena is old enough for a season and the Duke hates having to socialize. He coerces Harry to help him weed through all the men who will be courting Athena. This is a painful job for Harry because he is in love with Athena. Unfortunately he is also as poor as a churchmouse and therefore is not eligible to court Athena. Athena doesn’t have many requirements for a husband, but Harry is determined to find Athena a husband she can be happy with, even if it won’t be him. So he starts introducing her to gentlemen that have personality flaws.

This is a clean, charming Regency show more Romance. There is a lot of witty banter between the characters and as well as amusing situations as Athena meets suitors that are not so charming. Good for a light escapist romance. show less
A goose bump inducing book set in the Regency period. Ms. Eden really makes her characters come to life and while predictable in its outcome, the book kept me captivated. I really felt as though I was there with them. What a great story line this would be for a new series on TV or Cable. How can we make that case? I'd love to see the characters come to life outside my imagination.

If you are a Jane Austen fan, you will like this book. Harry is in love with Miss Lancaster, but he has no funds to ask for her hand. His best friend, Adam, is her brother-in-law and she is his ward. He asks Harry to escort her to the various functions of the Little Season and find a husband for her. Harry agrees, just to be close to Athena, but the young men he introduces her to are much less than she hoped for. Thinking that Harry needs better friends, Athena finds that it is not as easy to find a good husband as she assumed. Will she and Harry get together or will they be separated by a marriage not to Harry's liking?
