She means business...
Sharlene Waverly is determined to have the "new and improved" Honky Tonk up and running before the holiday. For that, she'll need Holt Jackson, the best darn carpenter in the state. But his warm, whisky-colored eyes make her insides show more melt, and before she knows it, she's sharing her darkest secrets and talking about the nightmares...
He's determined to keep things professional...
Holt Jackson needs the job at the Honky Tonk, but is completely unprepared to handle the beautiful new bar owner he's working for.
Sharlene and Holt try like crazy to deny the sparks flying between them, but their love may just be the best Christmas present either one of them ever got.

This is a sweet series. Main issue I see is that the lady does ALL the compromising. By the end of the 2nd book I was getting disenchanted and by the last one, I was rolling my eyes. Real relationships that last mean that both parties compromise. If only one person gives up their dream, its a damn cold prison to be in. And love is never enough for that to work.
What I Loved: Growing up in West Texas this book felt like a story of people that I could actually know. I could identify so many personalities from my life and think, yep that could really happen. I enjoyed all the little quips and the story of family. Holt made my heart go a little fluttery because of what a stand up guy he was.
What I Liked: The Honky Tonk itself! I haven't read the other books in the series but I have a feeling the Honky Tonk is a character all on it's own. It really reminded of a place that you could go into, have a beer, see your friends, and just have a heck of a good time. I don't like country music but it is more about the people than the music.
Complaints: Keep in mind that I a)don't normally read contemporary show more romances and b)stay even further away from country contemporary. My one complaint is just because I am a Texas girl but not everyone in a small town talks with a twang and/or with country talk. I think in this book it was a little overboard but overall did not distract from the story.
Why I gave it a 3: This was a fun read that I think most people who enjoy Country Contemporary Romances will enjoy. I thought the Christmas tie-in was very cute and not overdone!
Who would I recommend it too: Contemporary Romance readers who are looking for a country read. I don't think you have to read the other ones in the series (I didn't) and the story really held it's own!

HONKY TONK CHRISTMAS by Carolyn Brown is a contemporary western romance set in modern day Mingus, Texas. It is the fourth in the Honky Tonk series. It is well written with details, depth and page turner. It has romance, living with guilt, passion, spirited old ladies, cowboys, honky tonks, country music, love and reuniting old friends with new friends. The characters are spirited, high octane, family, sassy, and down right cute. The hero, Holt, is handsome, raising his niece and nephew, construction owner, and sparks fly between him and the heroine. He is going to do a construction job for the new Honky Honk bar owner, Sharlene. The heroine, Sharlene, is sassy, cute, was in Iraq, in the military, has nightmares, and has sparks with Holt. show more Sharlene, adores, Holt's niece and nephew. Who just let me say are so cute, funny, are only six years old, their parents are both dead and they definitely add spunk to this Christmas story. This is a wonderful conclusion to the Honky Tonk series. And yes the curse or blessing which ever you want to call it continued for the owners of the Honky Tonk.I would recommend this book especially if you enjoy healing, love, passion, spunk, adorable children, and a Christmas come true. To me this was the best of the best of this series. This book was received for review from the publisher and details can be found at Sourcebooks and My Book Addiciton and More. show less
