Walgreen Distinguished Service Professor of American Institutions in the Graduate School of Business, director of the Center for Population Economics, and a member of the Department of Economics and of the Committee on Social Thought at the University of Chicago.

English historian Geoffrey Elton was born in Germany but educated at the University of London. In 1967 he became professor of constitutional history at Cambridge University. A scholar of Tudor administrative history, his studies have emphasized the development of modern governmental machinery, under the direction of Thomas Cromwell, as the central show more feature of the Tudor era.
