"It all started with a little favour ... Police corruption, an investigation that ends in tragedy and the mystery of a little girl's silence - three unconnected things that will prove to be linked by one small town. While Detective Cormac Reilly faces enemies at work and trouble in his personal life, Garda Peter Fisher is relocated out of Galway with the threat of prosecution hanging over his head. But even that is not as terrible as having to work for his overbearing father, the local copper for the pretty seaside town of Roundstone. For some, like Anna and her young daughter Tilly, Roundstone is a refuge from trauma. But even this village on the edge of the sea isn't far enough to escape from the shadows of evil men."--Publisher description.… (more)

Cormac was sidelined for most of the investigation of this book, and his relationship with Emma was on the rocks, so there wasn't as much to enjoy about. I'm not sure there are more books to come in this series. ( )

This series is amazing. The only criticism I have of this book is that it ended and I knew I had a wait for the next one, ( )

Book 3 in the Cormac Reilly series and just as good as The first two! A young girl is abducted and Cormac's superintendent declines to give him the manpower he needs. With a skeleton crew of young officers, things go wrong and both Cormac and his Sargeant, Peter are put on leave. This one is a nail biter! Please let there be more of these books!!! ( )

* I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this book. *

Galway detective Cormac Reilly receives a report of the abduction of a young girl. In such cases, Reilly is used to getting all resources necessary, but his Superintendent denies him any additional resources at all due to a big drug surveillance operation. Left with a skeleton crew, Reilly and his team scramble to find the girl and track down her abductor before it is too late. Things go awry, there is a police shooting, and Reilly and his sergeant, Peter Fisher, are stood down.

Fisher is relocated to rural Ireland to serve under his hated father, while Reilly is suspended entirely. In the course of his new office duties, Fisher comes across a murder case that simply does not look right to him, but his father is insistent that he drop it and wrap up the case. Fisher ignores him and follows his instincts instead.

I liked the plot of this novel. While it's not as devious and knotty as some that I've read, McTiernan ties her story threads together nicely. I especially liked her descriptions of the Irish countryside in winter; I could almost feel the cold along with the characters. ( )

Yuuuuusssss Cormac! Now that's what I am talking about and been waiting 3 books for!

Wow that was a gripping and stressful book where Cormac and his loyal team faced roadblock after roadblock in their attempts to vindicate the actions of one of their own. With corruption rife it's hard to know who to trust. I am alarmed to see that there is no mention of a book 4. I am reading the two novellas at the moment but I hope the series continues! Superb police thriller! I am obsessed. ( )
