This was a cute little story, although Dusty comes across as either quite young for her age or not very bright. (I'll stick with quite young for her age). The magic system was interesting. I'll probably read the next book in the series.

Some of the tension felt a little forced and I guessed who one of the bad guys was relatively quickly but overall it was a good read that I could barely put down.

Destiny "Dusty" Everhart is a nightmare, literally, Half-magical she didn't appear to be magical until she wasn't and then she was transferred out of her high school to Arkwell Academy, which is a magical boarding school where she's treated differently because her mother is problematic and keeps finding loopholes to the spell that stops magical folk from going to war with each other and mundane folk.
Dusty has to feed of people's dreams, her latest dreamer is Eli Booker, who is dreaming of murder in the school. But when she tries to make him forget her the spell bounces off him. His life is now changed because they are part of a pair of dream-seers and he has to learn about the magical world they are in to survive.
Some of what pans out is obvious but there also was a lot of not telling someone something pivotal to keep them safe, which NEVER works.

I wanted to adore this book and it just did not happen. I really oveall did enjoy the characters and found the world building to be so compelling but the pacing of this book just did not wow me and it was very slow and did not capture my attention as much as i wanted it to. I still am intrigued to see what happens next. I just struggled with the pacing overall. I also found the side characters to be be super fun. I will def keep reading it eventually.
