Short biography
Sir Thomas Overbury was murdered because of his involvement in a notorious 17th century divorce case. He was an advisor to Robert Carr (later Earl of Somerset), a favorite of King James I. An excellent book that makes a very interesting read, amusing if at times rather obscure character studies give a flavor of the prejudices and opinions of the day. A very popular book that was reprinted many times, produced in facsimile that is now out of print but if you are interested in Elizabethan/Jacobean England I would recommend tracking one down.
