This book is a lengthy epic odyssey through countless couplings, many involving the eponymous heroine, but with a variety of other personae, male and female. I am in awe of how the author has managed to maintain the erotic momentum through so many multiple-partner couplings. Many attempts at erotic literature fail (some miserably, even modern ones) in this regard, and even 'The Romance of Lust', a truly classic epic of the genre, tends to lose momentum by the end. I found it interesting that, although the work is replete with images relating to Victorian taboos, it contains no flagellation to speak of. It is also almost exclusively M/F and F/F in its erotic scenes, with next-to-no M/M scenes. Those parts of the material that involve dark-hued servants probably added to the work's appeal when it was written, but they now seem merely odd, and hardly even comical. ( )
