A great cause and effect book, a girl makes seven loaves of bread everyday, it makes her life easier, than just making one. When she gets sick her sister makes the bread and only makes one loaf because it is easier. Turns out all seven loaves appease the animals and makes them docile, so making only one loaf means the sister has to deal with the cranky animals. ( )

This book was great for teaching cause and effect relationships. Lazy Rose learns that it's better to do honest work than cut corners.

Since my daughter enjoys helping me make bread, this is an especially delightful story. The illustrations with their bright colors and dark woodcut outlines are one of my favorite styles. And without being didactic, it has great messages about the value of work and the interconnectedness of things. ( )
