First volume was pretty boring. Second Volume was better but not good enough to bring up my rating. Any book that has Pirate in it's title needs a lot more adventure than this book brings. ( )

A facsimile copy of an early imprint, difficult to read so I bought a Kindle edition, much better for my old eyes. Tale is excellent for anyone with an interest in the Orkney Islands but a bit convoluted and the plot solution is a rather compressed at the end of the story. Gets better towards its end. ( )

"Scott's buccaneers in "The Pirate" are admirable, but they lack something human which we find here [in Treasure Island]." --Through the Magic Door, p. 264

Book description
