For all that this series could have been, I found myself astounded and disgusted by the artist's portrayal of the female characters. Even when they became emotionally strong and triumphed over male abusers/users they are depicted as bosom-heaving barbies. Clearly the company is trying to market the series to guys by doing this (girls would already be drawn in by the fairytale genre), but by disrespecting their female characters through the visuals they have actually alienated the female show more readership, no matter how strong the plotlines are. show less
This is a collection of comic book spins on various classic fairy tales and legends. I do love when classic stories get a new spin and these are very entertaining. This collection (includes #1-#24 of the original issues) has most of the beloved Grimm tales and the stories are entertaining, but make no mistake, the art is absolutely ridiculous, so if that is important to you, skip this whole thing; some of the art is just poorly made (e.g. to show a character cocking their head, one eye is show more simply drawn lower on the cheek than the other) and the female bodies are nothing short of ludicrous (blimp boobies galore!). All in all entertaining, but absolutely not up to the same standards as Fables or similar things in that field. show less
The Watcher is a well drawn and interesting horror story that plays off of several common tropes. While no absolutely stunning twists (which are actually rare so just a cop-out when complained about) the story presents enough plot and characterization to make the read enjoyable. Will you be blown away? Probably not. If you just want to be completely stunned and surprised, well, it isn't going to happen in well over 99% of work, so you're setting yourself up for disappointment, or for making show more yourself sound like a really obnoxious reviewer. If you don't care about characters and only action, this will have a couple of slow sections for you. If you like actual story with your action, the background helps to give us some idea of why the characters do what they do.

This graphic novel adaption of Grimm's Fairy Tales contains new interpretations of the famous tales, which are much darker than the watered-down versions commonly told. Every story is introduced by a modern sequence which describes a problem situation (sisters fighting, brother and sister running away from home, etc), the fairy tale which follows is closely connected to this issue and shows what can happen when the problem is not resolved. This first volume contains Red Riding Hood, show more Cinderella, Hansel & Gretel, Rumpelstiltskin, Sleeping Beauty and the lesser well known Robber Bridegroom. I loved these dark reinterpretations which often contained unexpected twists at the end, but be warned, these stories are not suited for children. show less
