This essay, originally published as a pamphlet in London in 1980, lays out a summary of Janice Raymond's book and then critiques it from a feminist point-of-view. The critique is pretty much on target and certainly brings out Raymond's "transphobia" (as it would currently be termed). However, Riddell assumes a biological base for transsexuality, which 33 years later is still elusive. So she really doesn't show more deal with Raymond's main question about the ethics of radical medical treatment for something that might be a socio-psychological problem. As Raymond says, there aren't clinics for people with racial dysphoria. Why are people troubled by their birth gender treated differently? show less
