This was another very good story in the 'Shadow of Liberty Series'. Each story is a stand alone book, but all the stories incorporate the coming to America and seeing Lady Liberty in the New York harbor.

This story is about a Swiss village of Chur and the surgeon who lives there, Erik Linden. Erik was excited to be marrying Metryka in just a few weeks, when she announced to him that she no longer loved him. He was heartbroken. Soon after Metryka will be injured in the unrest between the show more woodworkers in town and the factory that has started up and taken their jobs from them. Erik will question his ability as a doctor and sets off for America. But Erik leaves behind a young woman who has loved him from afar most of her life. How she comes back into his life makes for a beautiful story of love.

I enjoy the attention to detail and history that these authors put into their work. You learn some history and are entertained all at the same time. Looking forward to reading all 4 books in this series.

I continue to enjoy this saga in the life of the Cooper family and in the lives of the folks at Fort Bridger in the 1800's. It is a story that never lacks in adventure and sometimes danger. Life and weather back then was very difficult at times for people, but their determination and faith in God kept them going. In this story it mainly deals with sickness and bad weather. An influenza epidemic will hit the town and the Crow village. Food supplies will get scarce because of the blizzards and show more no wagon trains of supplies getting through. There will be loss of life, tempers flaring, but in the midst of this love will blossom and someone very special will come to a saving faith in the Lord. Loved the ending of this story. Brought tears to my eyes.

Please read these stories in the order written. You won't be sorry you did and if you jump in in the middle you will miss so much. It would be like starting a story in the middle of a book.

You would think by book 7 in a series one might be ready for the series to end; but not in this case. I am still very much enjoying my time at Fort Bridger. I think the theme of this story could be summed up in an answer Hannah Cooper gave to her daughter when she questioned the death of a loved one: "We just have to trust Him and believe He never makes a mistake. Even if we don't understand the things God causes or allows, we have to love Him and serve Him because He so loves us and has a show more perfect plan for our lives". Well said Hannah. When tragedy hits people they will find themselves 'in the valley' of grief, but God always goes before us and will get us 'beyond the valley' and headed towards the next mountain top.

In this story journalist Adam Cooper and his friend Doug McClain and their families are moving out to Fort Bridger to follow their dream to open a newspaper office. Hannah and her children are excited to have family move closer. In Fort Bridger there will be sadness over the loss of a good man and husband to a strong frontier woman, who takes this harsh tragedy and looks forward to God bringing her through this trial.

I really appreciate how this author is not afraid to give the gospel and weave it into these stories in such a natural way. There are so many good stories going on in each book, and I find myself wishing I could visit these folks at Fort Bridger. One more book to go!

A good beginning to a series that has captured my interest. It shows the real struggles that those who traveled West went through, but more importantly, shows how a faith in Christ is what will keep you when hard times come. A thought that was written and mentioned several times in this story stuck with me: "The Lord always knows what's ahead of us and can prepare us for the trials and heartaches that come our way, even before they happen. He's already in eternity, which means He's already show more in the future. So, He's already in our tomorrows."

Hannah and Solomon Cooper own a general store in Independence, Missouri and have 4 children. Life is going well for them, but Solomon has dreamed of going West and joining a wagon train. Through a series of 'God answering prayer' Hannah begins to see Solomon's vision for going West and they pack up belongings and sell the store and head out with the wagon train of folks. This story will show the good and the bad of people who travel together. It will show the joys and the heartaches along the way. But they are determined to make it to Fort Bridger and begin a new life there.

I was impressed by this story. I got caught up on the whole journey across America on a wagon train. I shed a few tears along the way and when I closed the pages of this book, I wanted to immediately pick up the next story in this series (Consider the Lillies), and see how the Cooper family is doing. "Wagons ho-o-o!"
