My reactions to reading this book in 1992.

This is a good overview of the broad outline of European history in terms of historical movements and chronology. It was particularly good for briefly summarizing various intellectual works -- both of societies and of famous individuals. This is the first book that really brought home to me just how important the classical Greeks are important in their contributions to our philosophy and science. There were good summaires of important elements of show more Christianity and of heresies I’d never heard of too. I liked the descriptions of Enlightenment works and figures and the origins of the French Revolution. show less
