- As a child, Anna Cleary loved reading so much that during the midnight hours she was forced to read with a torch under the bedcovers, to lull the suspicions of her sleep-obsessed parents. From an early age she dreamed of writing her own books. She saw herself in a stone cottage by the sea, wearing a velvet smoking jacket and sipping sherry, like Somerset Maugham. In real life she became a schoolteacher, where her greatest pleasure was teaching children to write beautiful stories.
A little while ago, she and one of her friends made a pact to each write the first chapter of a romance novel in their holidays. From writing her very first line, Anna was hooked, and she gave up teaching to become a full-time writer. She now lives in Queensland, Australia, with a deeply sensitive and intelligent cat. She prefers champagne to sherry and loves music, books, four-legged people, trees, movies and restaurants. - Nationality

Interestingly different in that the hero was a spy. The heroine was a bit of a ditsy mary jane type. She had an education and a good job though so she met the hero as an equal even if she was younger and a virgin. She kind of had him with his head spinning a bit which is a favorite trope of mine.
The plot was fun and moved along well. There was angst and humor and I liked the heat level between the hero and heroine. I will definitely look for more from this new to me author

A sweet story which is not something that I say often about HPs. The heroine was a naïve rich girl who didn't really know how to go on in the read world. The Hero was a widower who had trouble accepting that he was moving on. It was well written and interesting with good characterization.
So friends on a blog were laughing about Harlequin Titles and I decided to borrow this one from my library to see what's inside. Let me say that the title is completely misleading, he's not a billionaire (though she is a virgin, at least at the start of the book) He's more of a burnt out spy, who as a favor to an old spy master, has to check out this sweet young girl who reminded me of nothing more than a kitten. All her reactions were so sweet and kittenish, no anger or malice in her. She's show more adopted and has no ill feelings to her adoptive parents returning to the UK once she was 18, so they could be with their 'real' daughter and her new babies, she just longs to be accepted and loved. Of course she is not a scheming blackmailer as was initially suspected, and of course her heart is broken when she discovers he was interested in her for his work, (but he didn't seduce her because of that, oh no..)
What surprised me the most was how little this genre had changed since I had last read it (maybe 15 years ago) It had a real early 90's feel to it, even the setting felt it could have been 15 years ago. She's young, he's cruel to be kind but then returns because he can't resist her (trust me, that isn't a spoiler!) It's not badly written (not like some erotica out there) but it's heavily written, everything obvious and telegraphed miles ahead. Surprisingly set in Sydney, my old hometown, but not a great feel for time or place, could have been set in any US city just as easily.
Neither the title nor the image have anything remotely to do with the text. show less

A "Greek God" in every sense, Sam is proud, very much the alpha but he has a well "hidden sensitive side" when it comes to Ellie his personal PA. You see, they actually at one time were two `Strangers in the Night" who shared an incredible night of passion. Months ago, they met at a company masquerade ball and they were so drawn to each other and acted on that attraction. However, Ellie made Sam promise not to remove her masque and if he in the future were to recognize her, he was to never show more mention their night of passion and Sam agreed because he knew Ellie would run!
Ellie has worked for the bank for years, promoted several times and her main goal is to have enough money saved to quit her job and have a child before it is too late. As far as relationships, Ellie's success rate is "zero" so she plans to have a procedure in order to achieve her goal. However, when she is given a promotion to be Sam's PA with an increase in salary she accepts. However, he is a threat to everything she wants and she's scared. Sam pulls Ellie like a magnet; it is actually painful and a couple of times she gives in to her desire and throws caution to the wind. However, it all backfires for both of them.
This was an incredible love story and at times hard to read as you watched Ellie and Sam's struggle. Sam in a way lives by the old Greek ways, at one time he was married and hurt so he has trust issues and his strong feelings for Ellie confuse him. Whereas, Ellie is hurt by Sam's comments, actions and yearns for him to see her as the person she really is and she feels "used" and decides to move forward, which means leaving Sam and the bank she loves.
Heart breaking? Yes! However, you will not want to miss this wonderful romance and you will want to read more of Anna Clary's books. Congratulations Anna on this spectacular book; I can't wait to read your next Presents! show less
