This book is a collection of true erotic stories written by women and compiled by Dr. Lonnie Barbach, a clinical practitioner. Like any collection of stories, true or not, some are better than others. The book describes both straight and lesbian sex, as well as sex between married couples and between strangers. I liked the inclusiveness and nonjudgmental nature of the writing. It also provided a glimpse of life before AIDS when sexual freedom was much, well, freer. I read it through and that show more is probably not the best way to read such a book because I got tired of reading about sex with no plot or character development; and that's not what this book was aiming to provide. So, if you read it, dip into it a little each day and you will probably get more out of it. show less
With her groundbreaking works of erotica, Lonnie Barbach has given women a forum to express their most passionate and imaginative fantasies about sex and sexual encounters. These graphic stories, filled with the unexpected and the forbidden, brilliantly capture the myriad layers, colors, and visions of every woman's sexuality. A book that can be read as a starting point for shared intimacies or as a pleasure experienced in solitude, EROTIC INTERLUDES stimulates the mind as well as the body. show more These twenty-one stories by and about women--yound and old, married and single, heterosexual and lesbian--bring a feminine point of view to such subjects as mysterious partners, racy games, and risque encounters. But most important, EROTIC INTERLUDES is fun, celebrating a woman's sensualtiy and reaffirming her right to the positive pleasures and adventure of sex. The result is a classic work of explicit passion, ready to be thoroughly enjoyed. show less
This book explained so much of what I'm feeling and experiencing. It's such a relief to know that what I'm going through is normal and common and that there are so many things I can do, ranging from conventional hormone replacement therapy to a wide variety of alternative medicines and treatments. It's a great resource, especially if you don't know your family history of the pause.
A helpful guide to the Big O, including exercises, helpful philosophy of living and healing from sexual shame and misinformation, how to communicate with your partner(s), accurate information about the female anatomy, and clear and accurate information about other people's experiences and fantasies, so you don't feel like you are somehow "weird" or "abnormal." Also contains a chapter on pregnancy and menopause, and another chapter on STD's and contraception, with a list of resources for sex show more therapy and couples therapy and family planning. show less
