With twenty one cookbooks, several TV series, numerous magazine and newspaper articles and more behind her Sophie Grigson is no novice when it comes to cookery, and here she turns her attention to Spices. Each spice is considered individually, with a discussion of its origins and history, its purchase, care and use, and is followed by a few recipes incorporating the spice. The book is packed with interesting and useful information, within the first few introductory pages I discovered why my show more particular mortar and pestle is useless (and how many years have I put up with it?), I will now need to search out one as she describes.

The recipes are most appealing, so many appetising ones that it is difficult to pick out which to mention, but one that I was immediately taken with is the slow cook Jamaican Jerk Pork with its rich coating of spices. The Sticky Gingerbread is another or the many that appeal, but there are many more covering the whole range of meals: snacks, main courses, desserts, hot and cold dishes, vegetable dishes, salads and more.

The book is beautifully and tastefully presented. The recipes are clearly laid out and explained and include a few comments in addition to the instructions. The spices and most recipes are illustrated with superb photographs. this is a most useful addition addition to any cooks library.

An excellent book for building an understanding of all sorts of vegetables and how to cook them. Grigson combines anecdote, information and some very tasty recipes to produce the perfect mental meal for a keen cook.
A proper recipe book, full of original ideas and commentary, and no pretty pictures.
Eat Your Greens is an exploration of the variety of colors, tastes and textures of the vegetable kingdom. Sophie Grigson's soups and starters, main courses and side dishes, salads and preserves will satisfy meateaters and vegetarians alike. Inspired by both everyday and exotic vegetables, her 200 recipes will change the way you think of vegetables.
