This volume features the photographs of Will McBride. Although his work almost always appeared in magazines, the photographs seem more like private snapshots, offering views into the most private spheres of human existence.

Contemporary Art looks at art from the late seventies and through the eighties. Over the course of several chapters it considers various aspects of art, and takes a critical look at the art in the light of current trends. While the main emphasis is on painting, it encompasses all art forms. The book concludes with biographical notes on a 32 of the 102 artists from different nine countries whose work is considered here. This 1994 edition expands its coverage to look at trends in the show more international art world. There is strangely no index.

The book is illustrated throughout with 190 colour plates and 53 black and white images. The large format allows most of the pictures to be shown to a good size, many full page and a few double page spreads. The range of artists includes: Eric Fischl, Gilbert and George, Cindy Sherman, Andy Warhol, George Baselitz, Jean-Michael Basquiat, Jeff Koons, Martin Kippenberger, David Salle, Robert Longo, and many more.
