This was a collection of stories about a VERY haunted plantation in Alabama. Carrie Jo is the pretty historian hired to help restore the mansion to its former glory, and she has a secret: she is a "dream catcher." This concept is a bit vague, but when sleeping, she experiences the lives of people who inhabit a place - currently or in the past. With this gift, Carrie Jo helps put the ghosts of Seven Sisters to rest. She also captures the heart of Ashton, the current owner.
The author has a show more great imagination and I enjoyed this, but the target audience is probably young adults; the writing was unpolished, and it had an over-the-top, almost Scooby Doo-ish feel to it at times. show less

The only thing that stopped this from getting 5 stars was that it was very distracting since this is written in the first-person, and each chapter is told from the viewpoint of a different character. The reader often looses the train of thought and I found that I did a lot of back reading to remember who was speaking now. Other that that it was a first rate story with really good characters. I’m not sure but I got the idea that there may be a second book to continue this story. If not this show more one stands well by itself. show less
I'm not a stranger to reading out of order as everyone knows by now. This one...I asked the library to find the book and it took them a LONG time to come up with this one...the last in the Idlewild series. I guess fate was somewhat on my side as I asked for it in January and they got this one in time for Halloween. I've read other books by this author and have always enjoyed her spookiness. Maybe it was because it's the last book in this series, but I felt that something was missing. There show more wasn't as much goose-bump producing scenes as there had been in some of the others by this author. For one thing I felt that I was left hanging with unanswered questions. What happened to Gage and Bridget? I have no idea.... but would have liked to know. Maybe they are they going to be Idlewild's next ghostly visitors. What about Carrie Jo and Ashland? Did the house ever settle down? I Know it was a short book, less than 200 pages, and this writer's imagination has always been off the wall fantastic enabling her to create stories that the reader doesn't soon forget. This one (?)...it just felt like she was...well, just finished. It's a good story.... but maybe I just wanted more. show less
Historian Carrie Jo Jardine is a dream catcher. When she dreams, she enters the past and lives through those dead and gone.
As project manager for the historical restoration of Seven Sisters, an antebellum mansion in Mobile, she has been hired to bring it back to life. But the house is causing dreams, she is reliving the 1850s of Mobile through the eyes of residents. And, the dreams show her murder and mystery! Can she solve the mystery?
The characters are penned with a broad brush and their show more relationships flow easily. The plot is interesting and the history of 1850s Mobile is brought to life. An interesting read!
There is a downside .. this is book 1 in the series of Seven Sisters, and I consider them episodic rather than a series. What I mean is you must read book 2 to get an answer for the mystery posed in book and book 3 to get an answer for book 2. BUT, the nice thing is that these books are available free if you have a Kindle Unlimited subscription. show less
