This book is great for building children's imagination. Each page is a different way for the child to use their mother's sari. The book covers both what you actually really do with a sari and other things that you can do with a sari that are not part of the tradition. The book promotes both tradition and imagination. It is a great for children because it is so creative. For example, the children in the story use the sari as a blanket or a hammock which is not the traditional use of a show more sari.

Another thing that I like about the story are the pictures. The creativity of the illustrations help make the sari look endless. It looks like a long piece of fabric that can be good for anything and it can be as long as you want it to be or as small as you want it to be. Again, it promotes imagination in children. For example, in the book the sari was used to be like a train. Trains are long and continuous. Other times the sari could be like a small blanket. It was whatever the children wanted it to be.

The message of the story is to use your imagination. You never know what life can entail until you open your eyes and mind to new possibilities. With this story, the children are opening their mind to the idea of what a sari can be used for.

I liked this book because of the language but I didn’t like the lack of information. This book’s language was very descriptive. The book is written from the point of view of a child. The child is discussing how she loves and uses her mother’s Sari. I enjoyed the language in the book like “My mother’s sari is long like a train.” Or “I sail down a river and climb up a rope”. The language helps you visualize the girl’s imagination. I didn’t like this book because I felt like show more it could have been more informative. I wanted to learn more saris and the culture that saris come from. The main message of this book is imagination and the comforts of a mother. show less
I liked this book because it took something that is a mystery to many people and explained it in a clear way. This book told what a sari looked like, how it feels, what it represents to children, and how to wear it. I know I have always wondered how to wear a sari, and this book gave a clear explanation with pictures. This book also took a simple garment and made it into something more with the quote: "I love my mother's sari and how it makes me dream." When a person looks at a sari, they show more usually just see it as a pretty article of clothing, but to a child, it means so much more. show less
My Mother's Sari

I had almost completely forgot what a sari was until I read this book. The book was really cute. I enjoyed reading about the little girl who loves playing with her mother's sari. The book was very easy and fast to read, each page flowed right into the next. The story was accompanied by really cute drawings that I felt fit the book perfectly. The sari was generally the largest object on the page and was used for so many different things. I even enjoyed the very show more beginning and end of the book and how there were instructions on how to tie a sari. I did not know how a sari was put on and now I do because of those instructions. The little girl in the story seemed like every little Indian girl that falls in love with her mother. She is completely obsessed about the sari and does everything. The message in this book was really cute, children see things differently. show less
