Ethel grew up in the ghettos of Philadelphia and began her career in nightclubs there. The first Negro woman ever to have a lead in a legitimate Broadway play and nominated for Academy Awards. Ethel had always been a believer in Christ but it was not until she attended a Crusade in 1957 that she made a commitment to devote her life to the service of God.
