One of those classic scifi where the author mostly just throws some scifi trappings into their preferred writing style, in this case a suspense mystery. Not terrible, but I had trouble making it all the way through the short 140 pages, and in the end we mostly just get a quick exposition dump for the solution.
Suspense runaround with sf trappings. Author finds it useful to explain how analog tv signals work, 30+ years after their invention, so let's not call it sf. Nice use of surveillance as a plot device however. The narrator bluffs his way through nearly the entire book. It tends to keep him alive, with the side effect of being mystified by the end of each chapter, if not sooner. The author pretty obsessively reveals everything as the book wears on, even when that means a lot of posthumous show more revelation. Like I said, suspense. By the end I felt like the author and the narrator were the same person - which put that way sounds positive, but isn't. show less
