Short biography
Mary Lynn Baxter was born on 28 July 1943 in Lufkin, Texas, USA, where she bred, home of the cowboy - hero of the Western romance, which is one of the most popular of the category's sub-genres. She would be the first to say that it's her background that gives her a unique feel for romance writing.

Since she was a young girl, books and reading have been an important part of her life. Only after she read all the "goodies" in her public library did her mother encourage her to buy Harlequin romances, then 35 cents each. Wow! Those reading years laid the background for her decision to major in Library Science at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas, and become a school librarian.

After eight years of working in various school systems, she felt a need to do something different. What she wanted was to open a bookstore. With the help of her husband, Leonard, and her mother, Mary Lynn did just that. For over 20 years she sold books, and loved every minute of it. Then Mary Lynn decided she needed a new challenge. Following an intense amount of pushing and prodding from her husband she took the plunge and tried her hand at writing.

After months of agonising and chewing her nails, she finally mailed All our Tomorrows to Silhouette books in February 1981. One year later it was published as a Silhouette Special Edition. Now, over 40 books later, she's still writing. Mary Lynn can't think of anything else she'd rather do with her time and energy. She surfaces from her writing, she's a voracious reader. But this petite dynamo is always happy to tumble out of her world of fiction into her local fitness center for a bracing workout. She's also dedicated to her volunteer work... and still manages to fit in plenty of quality time with her family at their home in Lufkin, Texas.

This important book could be missed by some individuals who may only give glimpse to the title, the cover art, and / or a combination of the two. I have read novels by Mary Lynn Baxter previously so I know that her novels are not merely contemporary romance fiction where everything is sweetness and bon bons, love and roses.

This novel is an important contribution as it shares a daughter and a son’s experience with a father that is used to having his words be the decision of record on any show more matter of discussion – professional or personal. Dr. Cooper Newman considers it his ‘right’ to make decisions and expects his guidance to be followed regardless of another’s feelings, and / or interests. Dr. Tim Newman has followed in his father’s footsteps as a cardiologist but doesn’t feel he’s having the ‘charmed’ rewards as anticipated. Daughter Lindsay Newman is trying very hard to overcome emotional turmoil and depression that she has experienced ever since her mother’s suicide. Add to the mix that both father and son don’t give much credence if any to Lindsay’s philanthropy efforts or an idea that has sparked in her mind as the cause that would give her life meaning as well as to the community and you discover a young woman that is on the edge. A new arrival on the family estate is a truly sultry man of mystery hired to be the estate manager who is obviously a hard worker but between the phone calls he receives and unexpected visitors, one isn’t sure if Lindsay should be exploring the sparks that are instantly ignited between them. There is also the portrayal of a wonderful and supportive girlfriend for Lindsay to turn who listens without judgment and does everything that she can to build Lindsay’s self-confidence and encourage her independence.

There are many meaningful subjects within this novel all of which are so pertinent to today’s headlines: Bullying; Suicide; Depression; Parental Control; Domestic Violence; Counterfeit Drugs; to name a few. This is a thoughtfully written novel and as various new conflicts arise in each character’s relationships the reader can’t be too quick to imagine that a “happily ever after” is possible for any of them.

I have one further comment to share on the cover art. Although it is a pretty cover, I am disappointed in it being used as representation of this novel as none of the female characters in this story ever recline on a hammock.

I hope that this title will ‘find its way’ particularly to women that need to find the courage within, the strength to stand up for themselves, and to believe that they deserve the happiness they seek. I know from personal experiences that new beginnings are hard but each individual needs to make his/her own independent decision to change personal circumstances. Going forward doesn’t happen automatically. Time is short. Time is precious. I’d like to cast a magic wand to share that light bulb moment when one realizes you don’t have to waste time with someone that doesn’t take you seriously, someone that doesn’t care about the things that you are most passionate about and the things that are most meaningful to you. Read the novel and you’ll learn what decisions Lindsay made for herself and her future and the life-changing decision by her brother Tim.

This is the first book I've read by Baxter and I would be quick to read another of her stories. LS is a bit drawn out and you sometimes wonder if all the emotions are really necessary, but overall I really enjoyed Collier and Brittany as characters as well as their story.
When a string of deadly warnings convinces Dallas mayor Jessica Kincaid that she needs a bodyguard, she hires Brant Harding. The former secret service agent takes the job for one very personal reason.

As their personal agendas intersect, Jessica and Brant find themselves at odds, yet drawn to each other with a passion neither can deny. But the threat to Jessica’s life has intensified—and it’s coming from within the power structure of the city itself. Even Brant’s best efforts may not show more be enough to save her, or to buy them both a second chance. show less
Romance. Novella, 60 pages at a time, first of 3-part kindle serial. Vanderbilt ER, electricity out, ex-lovers surgeons have to work together. Presumably trying to hook your interest with lots of cliffhangers. I wanted to try to see if this is a good format for me, first indication is not! Poor.
