1962. Young New York Times reporter Michael is sent to Europe to learn about the life of philosopher and feminist Edith Stein. A German Jew who converted to Catholicism and became a nun, she met her end in the gas chamber and was later to become Europe's only Jewish patron saint. Over the course of his travels, Michael meets the various people in Edith's life.
