I think llama is a fun word.

My family is pop awesome

I once wrote a script with a friend and we had a typo while writing the words "so awesome" and it came out "pop awesome" which I find hilarious and still use to this day.

God is even more pop awesome than my family. He's the ultimate in pop awesomeness.

I have a BS in Computer Science from Georgia Tech with a specialization in software engineering. No, I do not know how to fix your computer.

I live in the Greater Atlanta Area, which narrows it down to about half the state of Georgia; I live with my husband and three children. [mostly from website]

I love books by Kristi Ann Hunter. I love her author's voice, her stories, her witty dialogue, the vein of spirituality throughout her stories, and the feel-good endings. I have an entire shelf of one of my bookcases dedicated to Kristi's books, and I'm not opposed to accommodating more. To be honest, Regency isn't my preferred genre or time period. It's not even my second fav. Even so, Kristi Ann Hunter is one of my favorite authors and its impossible for me to pass up one of her show more books.

Okay. Enough gushing about the author. Now it's time to gush about the cover of Vying for the Viscount. The cover art is eye-catching, unique, and so nicely layered. The woman on the cover is exactly how I picture Bianca, and the horses emphasize their part in this story.

Now, for the characters...

I adore Bianca Snowley. I love her untraditional ways, her sense of self, and her realization of how mundane her life felt prior to meeting Hudson. She is often ignored but doesn't drown in self-pity. She's a mere afterthought from her selfish stepmother, yet that doesn't level Bianca’s strength either. She's her own woman, confident in her own skin and in her abilities, yet still soft along the edges.

I also enjoy Hudson Stildon. It is exciting to discover he isn’t a dashing, well-put-together hero. He's rather out of place, awkward, and lost. I find that rather charming and am invested in him in every aspect of his life. Particularly in him finding inner strength and having faith in his decisions. His friendship with Bianca feels authentic and I appreciate how they communicate with each other.

Mr. Whitworth and the other secondary characters add so much depth and meaning to the story. They now feel familiar, as if I’ve visited Regency England. I have very little knowledge of horses, but this story made me want to saddle up and stay a little longer at Hawksworth stables. I look forward to book 2 in this series!

“We all have bearing on one another. It is our duty to make that bearing as beneficial as possible.”

When two colorful and interesting, but seemingly incongruent, characters were thrown together in this book, I couldn’t see how it was going to work out, but author Kristi Ann Hunter shuffled them through enough adventures and awakened their minds enough that we got a happy ending. Wealthy heiress Harriet Hancock loves to use her wealth and prestige to anonymously bless the lives of show more others. What she doesn’t realize is that sometimes it felt like she was manipulating them.

“Why was it so difficult for people to understand that helping others was its own reward? It was a purpose in and of itself.”

Hardworking and unpretentious Jonas Fitzroy is a stable hand who enjoys working with horses but doesn’t really care for prestige or society in general. He’s thoughtful and protective of his sister and shuns the spotlight—until Harriet takes him on as her newest project. I enjoyed the interaction between Harriet and Jonas and seeing their relationship grow.

“There is so much of God in nature, whether it be the flow of a stream or the beauty of a horse or the tickle of a breeze. The fact that everyone feels the same wind or wades through the same water regardless of who they are or where they were born reminds me that God sees us all the same and loves us equally.”

This story felt like it had more of an inspirational message than most of Kristi Ann Hunter’s books. Threads of being truthful, having integrity, and not being manipulative, as well as forgiveness were woven through it. Hunter’s signature sense of humor still was apparent, though, to lighten up the scenes. Although it can be read as a stand alone book, it was fun to see characters from the previous books in the series play parts in this one.

"The truth was that while the past colored the future, the people living in the present still wielded the paintbrush."

What a surprising and completely satisfying conclusion to the Haven Manor series! This third book in the series ties in all the characters from previous books, as well as some endearing characters from A Noble Masquerade (first book in Hawthorne House series). With her trademark writing style that is fluid, easy to read, and often humorous, Kristi Ann Hunter draws us quickly show more into the world of intrigue and mystery in 1816 England as we finally....finally.... learn about Jess' past. The setting and the world that the author weaves during this time period are so realistic and believable that you won't know what's fictional and what's history until the author's note at the end of the book unless you're a European history expert (and I'm far from that). The plot is incredible with unexpected twists and turns and the maturation of faith we see in Jess is inspirational and encouraging. Derek is an unconventional hero, but a hero in his own right and you can't help but fall in love with his geeky, awkward, but sweet, honest, loyal, and selfless ways. And their romance! So delightful, funny, filled with mishaps and tenderness! This book can definitely be read as a stand-alone but reading A Noble Masquerade and then the two previous books in the Haven Manor series prior to this book will give you a wonderful insight and affinity for Jess.

If you enjoy historical fiction with a good dose of mystery and intrigue, you will absolutely love this book. It will captivate you from the prologue and have you turning the pages for just one more chapter to try to piece together what's happening. I received a copy of the book from Bethany House Publishers and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.

"Encountering her once was a coincidence, twice was a gift, and the third time in as many months could be nothing short of a miracle."

How can this delightful contemporary romcom be Kristi Ann Hunter's induction into the genre? You'd think this is her genre of choice and craft given how fun and engaging the book is, when in reality she's been firmly planted in Regency romance until now. I love the author's Regency books but am totally adoring her contemporary romcom!

Emma and Carter are show more unforgettable characters who will live in my heart for years to come. The cast of secondary characters are well-developed and really fill out the story. The premise and plot are fascinating and I learned so much about painting and coding and the processes behind each craft. The dialogue is witty and fluid and the romance is swoon-worthy. I appreciated the faith threads in the story that complemented the characters' depth.

Emma, with her slightly awkward, chaotic, tender-hearted computer programmer personality, is so adorable and lovable. The path to finding her true self is fraught with angst, heartache, and tears but I loved how her heart and loyalty bring her back to the right path. And Carter.... whew. He's one of the best fictional heroes I've encountered this year. Gifted yet self-aware, confident yet humble, patient, kind, thoughtful, romantic - I could go on and on but you'll have to read the book for yourself to find out more about Carter.

If you enjoy contemporary romcom, this is a must-read. Thank you, Kristi Ann Hunter, for pouring out your genius into this genre; I, for one, so needed this book to make me smile, laugh out loud, and shed a few tears.
