This book was the closest to me when I joined the site, so it's getting the first review! It has been an invaluable resource for my synoptic paper on war literature, providing a wide range of poems with different themes, attitudes, styles, and authorial situations - all united by the single idea of war. From poetry on the home front written by worried mothers, girls wishing they could join in 'the fun' of the war, and grieving sweethearts; to the gruelling trench-poems, laments for fallen show more comrades and vicious satires for which WWI poetry is arguable best-known... This book presents a very wide spectrum of poems, some of which (judging by internet searches) appear to be quite obscure and difficult to find elsewhere. show less
